FOR THE CULTURE CO.

For The Culture is a not-for-profit organization that's aim is to center Black influences in dance and elevate dance education. It is our goal to pay homage to the pioneers of Black dance and culture by edifying and empowering artists and educators to be knowledgeable stewards of Black culture for future generations. For The Culture looks toward youth as the pioneers and makers in the future and continuation of Black excellence in dance.

For The Culture was created in response to the colonization of dance education, and hopes to aid in bridging the gap between the colonial focus of current dance education and the erasure of Black bodies and spirits. We believe in giving voice and space to those who have been marginalized, and to bring to the foreground the tradition of Black excellence in dance.

For The Culture is dedicated to a holistic approach to dance education that goes beyond the teaching of bodily movement, and brings to the forefront the historical, spiritual, mental, and cultural aspects of dance education that are largely omitted in current dance spaces. In 2023, our debut workshop, entitled "Vol.1", focused on the origins and traditional influences of hip-hop dance. "Vol.1" offered beginner, intermediate, and advanced workshops in the fundamentals of hip-hop and house dance styles, which focused on cultivating the participants' understanding of the history of hip-hop and the cultural background of the genre.
